Organic dehydrated pitaya - Dragonfruit
The Pitaya or Pitahaya plant is an indigenous cactus of Latin America (Hylocereus undatus), belonging to the Selenicereus genus, of the Cactaceae family.
It has branches up to 12 meters long, with a creeping or drooping habit. It forms aerial roots with which it manages to attach itself to trees or rocks. Its flowers are greenish-white and open only at night (for this reason the plant is also called "The Queen of the night"), releasing a vanilla scent.
Its fruit is also called Dragon Fruit, due to its appearance : up to 12 cm long and with a diameter of up to 9, it has a vibrant yellow or pink/fuchsia color, with grooves on the peel reminiscent of pointed scales.
Its pulp , white or pink depending on the variety, full of small black seeds is juicy and has surprising nutritional properties.
It is rich, in fact, in vitamins: A, B and C , but in particular in vitamin B1 , or thiamine, it is part of the so-called water-soluble vitamins, those which cannot be accumulated in the body, but must be regularly taken through the nutrition, because they contribute to the important process of converting glucose into energy.
In addition to vitamin C, it is rich in another antioxidant, betalaine , a natural pigment that gives color to flowers and fruits, as well as having a very important action against free radicals.
Furthermore, it has a fair concentration of mineral salts , in particular: calcium and sodium and, to a lesser extent, selenium, zinc and magnesium. Finally, we appreciate its high fiber content , which promotes the functionality of the intestine.
The Rewild dehydrated Pitaya pulp has been dried at low temperatures, guaranteeing the almost total preservation of its nutritional characteristics.
