Le ho scoperte da poco e sono già nocedipendente, soprattutto per il sapore e la croccantezza.

Organic Macadamia Nuts

€5,29

The Macadamia nut is the fruit of the tropical Macadamia tree, a perennial plant belonging to the Proteaceae family, endemic to eastern Australia.

They are evergreen plants that develop a height between 6 and 40 m. The leaves, with an elliptical shape, are  up to 30 cm long, while its flowers, composed of 4 petals, are gathered in clusters with a length varying between 5 and 30 cm, and have a color between white, pink and purple.

There are 4 species of Macadamia, but only two produce fruit: Macadamia integrifolia, and Macadamia tetraphylla.

The fruit consists of a round almond enclosed inside a hazelnut colored shell, very resistant and hard, which is produced only by adult plants (at least 7 years old), between April and December.

The name of the genus is a tribute to the scientist and politician John Macadam (1827-1865), colleague of the botanist Ferdinand von Mueller who first described them.

Its fruit is also known as Australian Walnut, Queensland Walnut, Baphal Walnut, Bush Walnut, Bauple Walnut and Hawaii Walnut, while the native Australian populations, who first used it, called it: Gyndl, Jindilli, Boombera , Kindal-kindal or Maroochi.

The Macadamia Nut is very rich in oil: 78% of which approximately 60% is made up of monounsaturated fatty acids, the good fats that help fight bad cholesterol and protect the heart and cardiovascular system. Due to its highly oily and penetrating nature, its oil, rigorously cold pressed, is used in the cosmetics industry.

It is also rich in minerals, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, proteins and vitamins A, B1 and B2 and has a very low acidity level, around 2%.

Ingredients: 100% organic macadamia nuts.

Allergens: The macadamia nut is an allergen pursuant to Annex 2 section III Legislative Decree 109/1992 and subsequent amendments. It may also contain traces of other nuts, sesame seeds and sesame seed-based products.

Uses: Excellent as a hunger-busting snack, but also as an ingredient for sweet and savory recipes.
